What plans does Turlock offer?
Free pre-drawn plans for detached ADUs, developed with Stanislaus County and nearby cities. As of October 2026, Turlock's building page links floor plans and elevations at 260, 405, 562, 744, 798, 896, 1,050 and 1,192 sq ft, though its text describes seven plans. Each comes with several exterior finishes.
What does a pre-drawn plan save in Turlock?
Most of the drawing set. Turlock does not ask for a floor plan, foundation or framing plans, construction details, elevations, stamped engineering, electrical, plumbing, HVAC or Title 24 calculations when you build a pre-drawn plan.
What does Turlock still require?
- A building permit application, submitted electronically.
- A plot plan to scale, in three sets, showing the parcel, the ADU, driveway, easements, north arrow and setbacks.
- Fire sprinkler plans where the main house has sprinklers.
- Truss calculations and layout, if applicable.
- Photovoltaic plans, which the city lists for all new detached ADUs.

Who rents in Turlock?
Turlock is home to California State University, Stanislaus, so studios and one-bedrooms can appeal to students and staff. State law requires rentals of junior ADUs, and of ADUs built under §66323, to exceed 30 days. See our rent guide.
Is a pre-drawn plan right for my Turlock lot?
It depends on the footprint and your goals. With eight sizes listed, one often fits. A conversion or an attached unit still needs custom drawings. We check the plot plan first.
